Necessary? No. Convenient? Absolutely! Purchased this commercial rated machine after reading some of the issues with some of the residential models related to the pumps, etc… I have often used my mother’s Keurig which is a K45 which she has had for nearly three years of trouble free service and I initially thought of simply getting that model based on her experience.
