Make it work even in a fridge that requires the chip (RPFWE filter) Works great in our GE refrigerator that requires the RFID chip – just make sure you carefully remove the chip (its on a sticker) from the old filter, and place it in exactly the same spot on the new one. The refrigerator will still think it’s the old filter when you stick it back in (i.e., it’ll still tell you the filter is 99 days overdue for replacement) but the new non-chip filter will function just fine. Go ahead and screw GE with their filthy money-grab by adding a RFID chip to their water filters for no other reason than to make sure you have to buy a genuine GE-brand filter from GE.
It will fit RPFWE. It will indeed replace the very expensive RPFWE filters but what you need is the bypass cartridge to get the rfid chip that has and tape it to the inside of the filter area. It’ll say it’s unfiltered but it will be filtered water. Also you won’t get the “convenient” countdown to replace your filter but easy fix is just mark it on a calendar or use your phones calendar to remind you in six months to buy another one of these.
Excellent bargain compared to the ridiculously overpriced GE-branded filters. Its been a little over a week and I’ve had no problems to speak of with this replacement filter. Its a much better price that the GE branded item. I’ll update when I have a good idea how long it lasts.*UPDATE* – It’s been about seven months since I installed this filter and I’ve never had a problem with it, but my fridge says it’s time to replace it. I’m buying another without reservation.
